RELIGION AND ANIMALS

On November 1-3, 2002, CRLE and the Sustainability, Humanities, and Environment Alliance of the Environmental Initiative of the Associated Colleges of the South (ACS) sponsored a workshop for scholars of religious studies on the subject of religion and animals. The purpose of the workshop was threefold: (1) to give scholars around the nation the opportunity to learn about one another's research, (2) to give teachers of religious studies an opportunity for sharing ways of teaching courses dealing with religion and animals to college undergraduates, and (3) to develop a national network of scholars interested in religion and animals.

Planning for further workshops and an independent website is underway.
